Mendoza's Restaurant is a Mexican restaurant at 2122 McKee Rd, San Jose, CA 95116. The place has a festive, colorful feel, with a menu rooted in Michoacán cooking, large plates, seafood specials, soups, enchiladas, burritos, cocktails, and music that gives the room a lively mood.
The restaurant sits near Regional Medical Center, so it works for nearby workers, hospital visitors, local families, and anyone looking for a full Mexican meal on the east side of San Jose. The dining room feels warm and active, with bright decor, a bar area, table service, outdoor seating, and a menu broad enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a group meal.
A strong first order is the molcajete. Menu notes highlight a seafood-style molcajete with shrimp, octopus, prawns, chipotle sauce, and melted cheese. It is rich, saucy, and built for sharing. Warm tortillas help turn each bite into a small taco, and the sauce brings a smoky kick that suits the seafood well.
Enchiladas are another key part of the menu. The Michoacanas con pollo offer a classic plate with chicken, sauce, cheese, rice, and beans. The flavor leans comforting rather than overly heavy, making it a good pick for guests who want something familiar. Caldos also add depth to the menu, with chicken soup and other warm bowls that work well for a slower meal.
Burritos bring a casual side to Mendoza's Restaurant. Guest notes mention a pastor wet burrito with red sauce, rice, beans, and horchata as a satisfying order. The wet burrito style fits the restaurant well: saucy, filling, and easy to enjoy without needing several side dishes. Huaraches also get local praise, giving diners a masa-based plate with toppings, salsa, and bold texture.
Birria is another item worth attention. Review notes praise its real flavor, tender meat, and rich seasoning. For guests who like deeper, slower-cooked Mexican dishes, birria is a smart pick. Pair it with rice, beans, salsa, and a cold drink for a full meal.
The vibe is upbeat, casual, and social. Live mariachi-style music, cocktails, beer, and generous plates make Mendoza's Restaurant feel suited for birthdays, family dinners, weekend meals, and relaxed nights out. Service can vary during busy hours, yet the food, portions, and festive setting give the restaurant a clear local identity.
Mendoza's Restaurant is a solid San Jose pick for molcajetes, birria, huaraches, wet burritos, enchiladas, caldos, horchata, and Michoacán-style Mexican comfort food on McKee Road.

Plenty of parking, went on a Monday and not too many people, went with a group of 15 and was served quickly. Musicians came in and out was a perfect fun time. Paid per song and enjoyed every moment. They took requests from Birthday person and knew most of his requests and/or offered other songs. Was able to get up and dance a couple of songs in the restaurant. That was fun! I had the fajitas and it was so good, we had shrimp cocktails and very fresh and good. The enchiladas were a little different but good. Overall a fun time, good eating and music was good I enjoyed the loud atmosphere because we were celebrating. The bills was nominal for what we got Parking space

The Mexican food here is truly delicious, making for a fantastic meal. I found the enchiladas rojas suizas to be incredibly satisfying and a definite highlight. Furthermore, the chorizo and egg breakfast was absolutely outstanding, especially when paired with their wonderful handmade tortillas. I wholeheartedly recommend trying these dishes.

I recently placed a take-out order for six tacos and two drinks, which came to almost $50.00, and I even left a tip. However, when I got home, I found the food to be very plain; my order only included a side of onions, cilantro, and salsa, completely missing radish, limes, and grilled peppers. Realizing these standard accompaniments weren't provided, I went back inside to ask for them, only to be charged an additional $3.27 for what I expected to be included. This experience has unfortunately led them to lose my business, as I believe a truly authentic restaurant would not handle things this way.

I was absolutely delighted by the truly authentic Mexican flavors presented here. The generous portions are fantastic, and the menu offers a wonderful selection of dishes, ensuring there's something for everyone. I'm already planning my return visit to explore more of their delicious offerings.
